Detailed Overview:
Story Path is a patented storytelling system (US11285388B2) by Nawaf Al Dohan, designed to revolutionize how films respond to viewers.
Inspired by the “choose-your-own-adventure” concept seen in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the invention pushes the idea further — removing buttons, menus, and pauses to preserve the purity of cinematic immersion.
Instead of interrupting the film for a choice, the system reads where the viewer’s eyes naturally focus. Imagine a bus scene with three characters: an old man, a young man, and a pigeon by the window. If your gaze lingers on the pigeon, the next scene follows its perspective; if it stays on the old man, the story continues through him.
When viewed collectively in a cinema, the outcome becomes a shared, collective decision — each audience generating a unique ending simply through attention.
Developed for phones, laptops, VR headsets, and theaters, Story Path bridges cinema and gaming, proposing a new narrative medium where technology serves emotion instead of replacing it.
It reflects Nawaf’s belief that “film doesn’t need to compete with games — it needs to evolve with them.”
